The Game Awards pelted us with new trailers for a whole evening. There were a couple of games that stood out for us, though they weren’t the biggest announcements.
Elden Ring, Dune, Star Wars, or Nightingale stole the show from many other games at the Game Awards. Therefore we want to dedicate this article to our personal highlights again. Trailers that may not have caused the greatest sensation, but immediately made us want more.
You can find out why here, while elsewhere we list all the important announcements for PC gamers and analyze both the strategy hope Dune and Star Wars Eclipse in detail.

A Plague Tale: Requiem
Genre: Action-Adventure | Developer: Asobo Studio | Release: 2022
Elena Schulz: The new trailer for Plague Tale: Requiem is not only atmospheric as usual but also shows what distinguishes the follow-up from the first part. On the one hand, there are sometimes very gloomy, but much more varied, Mediterranean-style landscapes. Instead of always narrow medieval streets and oppressively dark forests, this time I also expect sunny coasts, a ship that breaks through the waves, or colorful meadows of flowers that look like a painting and almost make me forget what a hard fate the siblings Amicia and Hugo probably also had expected there.
On the other hand, the first gameplay again incites menacing swarms of rats on the two, which Amicia drives away with light before she puts on her trusty crossbow to bring down a soldier. Overall, the slightly older girl seems to be much tougher – she now even dares to engage in close combat or operate a gun on a boat. Both are also hiding under a car instead of just behind cover. Perhaps the second part will be a little more varied in a playful way, after a routine of distracting and sneaking around
quickly established itself in the previous part.
But I’m particularly curious about the story. I’m really happy to get a real sequel in which the characters that I’ve taken so dearly can continue to develop. Amicia finally has to face the question of how far she can go to protect her brother, while Hugo struggles with his illness and another well-known figure, the alchemist Lucas, returns, whom Asobo can now also shed light on.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Genre: Roleplay | Developer: Square Enix | Release: December 16, 2021
Soren Diedrich: In my childhood, Final Fantasy 7 passed me by. In my youth, I didn’t really dare to do JRPGs. When the remake was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2020, I was hanging on my newly acquired Xbox and discovered Game Pass for myself.
As you can see, there have always been more and less good reasons why I haven’t played Square Enix’s masterpiece RPG to this day. I cheered all the louder when the PC implementation was shown at the Game Awards. Because today, today I finally have time – and the necessary self-confidence to dive into the game!
Now I’m sitting on red-hot coals until the release on December 16, 2021, and I’m really excited. Will the adventure around Cloud, Barret, and Aerith cast its spell over me as much as it has millions of players before me? If you have any tips for an absolute Final Fantasy newcomer: Write them to me in the comments!
Star Trek: Resurgence
Genre: Adventure | Developer: Dramatic Labs | Release: 2nd quarter 2022
Peter Bathge: Star Trek was an important part of my youth for me. But the next, next generation of the universe lost me last, be it the cruelly illogical plots of “Discovery” or the stupid “Picard” finale. The fact that the fans with “Lower Decks” are currently holding up a cartoon series as the only halfway acceptable representative of the Classic Trek speaks volumes about the quality of the wonderful, but incredibly stupid new shows.
The trailer for Star Trek: Resurgence now promises to deliver exactly what I love about the franchise: The old ships and uniforms of the glorious TNG and DS9 times, plus (hopefully) a focus on moral dilemmas, philosophy, and the inexplicable Spatial phenomena. Oh yes, and Spock is there too, even if after the death of Leonard Nimoy it looks like a corpse-beating. I am definitely looking forward to discovering strange worlds in the Telltale style and penetrating galaxies that no human has ever seen before.
Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2
Genre: Action game | Developer: Saber Interactive | Release: Unknown
Phil Elsner: I’ll admit I did a medium-sized dance of joy when the Space Marine 2 trailer ran at the Game Awards. The classic is finally getting its long-overdue sequel! Now I can hardly wait to rush across the battlefield as Captain Titus with chain sword and bolter and put down the Emperor’s enemies, muahahaha!
But my anticipation also has another reason: I believe that there could hardly be a better development studio for Space Marine 2 than Saber. They have already proven with World War Z and their swarm engine how credibly they can manage huge hordes of opponents who look like an organic (and threatening) mass.
